(March 20, 2007, Sacramento, California)  Demonstrating its commitment to the farmers and ranchers of California, the California State Grange joined in celebrating  Agriculture Day on the west steps of the Capitol, March 20.

The annual event brought together lawmakers, organizations and the public for a day of recognition and appreciation for California's agricultural community.

Representing the California State Grange were President Randall Lewis, Legislative Director Michael Greene, Manager Amy Self, Assistant Linda Lewis, News Editor Jay Hartz and Public Relations Chairman Bob McFarland.  From their information booth, representatives engaged the public and handed out brochures and agricultural snacks.

Legislative Director Greene promoted the State Grange's legislative agenda and exchanged ideas with California Department of Food and Agriculture Secretary A.G. Kawamura and Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee Assembly Member Doug LaMalfa, (R) Richvale.

President Lewis and his wife Linda toured the event, visiting with several organizations including the California Women for Agriculture, Department of Food & Agriculture, Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom, Pork Producers Association, Alpaca Breeders Association, and Almond Board of California.

Agricultural organizations gave out samples of fresh strawberries, sweet apples, BBQ pork sausage, beef sandwiches, flower bouquets, and colorful t-shirts.  On exhibit were live alpacas, horses, rodeo queens, and characters Ms. Asparagus and Tommy 2 X 4.

The celebration was well attended by school children, teachers, lawmakers, and agricultural leaders.
